André M. Vargas is Chief Data Officer of leading entertainment and sports agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA). In his role, André is the architect behind the agency’s overall vision, strategy, and roadmap for cohesion across a number of data-driven teams including Engineering, Science, Analytics, Management, and Insights.
In 2017, André spearheaded the agency’s in-house data platform. This innovation has elevated CAA’s ability to service clients by using data to match brand opportunities, analyze audience engagement and digital presence, aggregate box office data, monitor social campaigns, and beyond.
André has over 24 years of experience with Complex Program Delivery and Analytics. Prior to joining CAA in 2011, André worked in management consulting at PA Consulting Group, where he was the Head of Business Intelligence & Analytics Services for North America.

Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.
I have always been passionate about decision sciences, data, insights, and helping people make informed and empowered choices aided by quality information. As a consultant, I focused on helping organizations build stronger practices and enable analytics to work for them. Now, at CAA, I have the best job in the world building data capabilities from the ground up!
What is one of your guiding leadership principles?
When the team wins, we all win.
With disruption being a key theme of the past year, where do you see your role as a CDAO going in the next 1-2 years?
The sophistication of data usage will continue to develop, and it is our duty to make sure our clients continue to secure the best possible business opportunities and outcomes. Our data capabilities are only going to keep improving and leading the entertainment industry.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the role as a CDAO?
Prioritize connecting and building relationships with your peers and their teams. Stay humble, ask lots of questions, and always be consistent.
