Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.

I have been passionate about data since my first job back in India, and since then, I have exclusively worked in data. I was drawn to Republic Services' vision around sustainability in action and the opportunity to drive value and mature their data capabilities.

What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

One of my guiding leadership principles is to bring the same intensity, curiosity and humility to every challenge.

With disruption being a key theme of the past year, where do you see your role as a CDAO going in the next 1-2 years?

In the next one to two years, the role of a CDAO will focus on four key areas:

  1. Tighter alignment of data strategy with business strategy
  2. Maturing data platforms and capabilities as a byproduct of solving business problems
  3. Building discipline around key data assets to make them more consistent and reliable
  4. Delivering timely/actionable insights to drive better business decisions

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the CDAO role?

Try staying away from hype, and focus on creating measurable business value through data solutions. This will ensure the success and longevity of an enterprise wide data program.

Tell us 3 fun facts about yourself.

  1. I wanted to become a professional astrologer and palm reader at some point in my life.
  2. I am very intrigued and interested in the nature of reality — quantum mechanics, cosmology, astronomy.
  3. I am working hard towards doing enough farming in my backyard to not have to buy vegetables from the store.
