Kelly Tuminelli leads the finance and insurance services organizations of TriNet, a $5 billion professional employment organization with 3,700 colleagues, and is a seasoned financial executive bringing more than 30 years of financial services experience in the insurance, investment and consulting industries. 

Kelly is on the Board and is the Audit Committee Chair of TaskUs. She was previously on the board of MENTOR-Virginia, as well as the past chair for AMP! Metro Richmond, a Richmond-based middle school mentoring program. Kelly is a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Global Management Accountant

Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.

After college, I started in public accounting, but took an untraditional path, including providing litigation support and business turnaround services. I transitioned from consulting to General Electric, rotating through a number of cross-functional roles, including leading investment portfolio management for a $75 billion investment portfolio, facilitating 3 separate IPOs, and was a divisional CFO and Chief Accounting Officer. All of those roles played a part in readying me to be a public company CFO, first of Genworth Financial, and then TriNet. 
 

What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

Be a lifelong learner and recognize that good ideas come from unexpected places. So listen intently with purpose to make the biggest impact. 
 

With disruption being a key theme of recent years, where do you see the CFO role going in the next 1-2 years?

I expect CFOs to play an even more important role at facilitating industry innovation while laying the groundwork for disciplined and accountable growth. Increased funding costs are going to drive choices, and CFOs are in unique positions to ensure organizations are sound and set up for success. 
 

What advice would you give to someone just starting out as a CFO?

Understand the influencers around you, and create connections. Make sure to communicate broadly and frequently, as you might be an expert in your field, but you need to bring others along to be successful. 
 

Tell us 3 fun facts about yourself.

1. I belong to 7 wine clubs in Napa/Sonoma.
2. I've rowed 3 million meters on a Concept2 rowing machine (started in the middle of the pandemic).
3. I've been to 6 out of 7 continents.
