Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.
Prior to joining Nouryon, I held several (IT) leadership positions in AkzoNobel, a leading coatings and chemicals company, and senior positions in PriceWaterhouseCoopers and IBM. I hold a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and a MBA from Henley School of Management in the UK.
What is one of your guiding leadership principles?
People make the difference, not technology.
With disruption being a key theme of the past few years, where do you see your role as a CIO going in the next 1-2 years?
As a CIO, I see technology becoming much more integral to the way the business works, and as such, my role will become much closer to the rest of the leadership.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the role as a CIO?
Focus on business outcomes.
Tell us a few fun facts about yourself.
- I made the most money in my first job (at the Dutch Mint)
- I'm terrible in working with electricity
- I'm half German but with a full sense of humor
