Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.

I realised early in my career that IT is embedded in every process in a company. So every role I have had, whether in logistics, supply chain, ecommerce, web, etc., has had quite a large IT component.

What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

Empowerment and transparency are key. Also, set a clear mission and vision for the organisation and individuals to ensure we strive towards a common direction that supports the group strategy. With a great team, you can stretch beyond what you believe is possible.

With disruption being a key theme of recent years, where do you see the CIO role going in the next 1-2 years?

In the next few years, I clearly see my role moving more and more around enabling a fast moving business to support our digital vision, whether it's in customer or/and employee experience, data domain, cybersecurity or architecture. Also, we must focus on ensuring we have the right team, because without them there will be no success.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out as a CIO?

Be curious, listen, and take the time to learn both the business side and the team. You have to embark on the journey before deciding on your strategy.

What is the value of joining an Evanta community?

Evanta is a great community to network and bring perspectives that can help you in your own context. Also, it’s valuable to share successes and failures. We guide each other with common knowledge in the community.

Evanta Governing Body members share their insights and leadership perspectives to shape the agendas and topics that address the top priorities impacting business leaders today.
