Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.

I always had a passion for technology (cars and IT in particular), and as starting with cars is a bit more complicated, I founded my own company in the golden days of ecommerce. After more than 5 years, I went into IT consulting at Steria-Mummert and was responsible for quality management in IT projects. After that I started in the Bertelsmann Group (First Arvato, and then Bertelsmann Group Headquarter) holding various information security positions. After nearly a decade in the Bertelsmann Group, I started at HELLA as CISO, and this resulted in now being the CISO for FORVIA (Faurecia and HELLA), which is one of the largest automotive suppliers world-wide.

What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

Clear vision, clear responsibilities and very clear communication and expectation setting.

With disruption being a key theme of recent years, where do you see the CISO role going in the next 1-2 years?

CISOs must be more political, even more strategic and complex, as well as more important.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out as a CISO?

Listen, learn and lead.

Tell us three fun facts about yourself.

  1. I’m a car enthusiast.
  2. I have been doing all kinds of sports for over 25 years.
  3. I wanted to become a Tennis pro in my early days.
