Laurent Amsel is a CISO with over twenty-five years of experience in large international companies. Laurent currently serves as Group CISO at Carrefour, managing cybersecurity by balancing governance and tech.

Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.
I have always had a passion for tech. After studying Engineering, I started my career as a developer. I then operated and designed networks within telecom operators.
In 2015, I decided to focus on cybersecurity – a field which has always interested me. I joined Carrefour in 2019 and have been defining the group's cybersecurity strategy since 2020.
What is one of your guiding leadership principles?
Trust and kindness are two important pillars of professional life. This job is stressful, so it is important to be able to rely on your environment.
With disruption being a key theme of the past few years, where do you see your role as a CISO going in the next 1-2 years?
The CISO is evolving from the role of a technical expert to one of a coordinator, with a real impact on the business and organisation of a company. It is no longer possible to consider cybersecurity as the prerogative of a few – it is a posture that must be disseminated throughout the organisation.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the role as a CISO?
Go and meet your business. Define a long-term strategy while keeping the agility to adapt it. Above all, learn how to talk about this strategy without relying on jargon.
