Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.

I spent many years as an IT generalist, spanning helpdesk, service management, infrastructure engineering and security. After a change in executive leadership, a security team was born, and I was asked to serve as the first Security Architect. After a few years of maturing the security capabilities and implementing processes, I moved into the Associate Director Cybersecurity role at StoneX, a Fortune 100 financial Services firm (forex.com, Gain Capital, City Index). Four years later, I moved to Marmon Holdings as their second CISO.

What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

I have been described as a ‘servant leader’ by others, choosing to lift, mentor and reward others.

What is the greatest challenge CISOs face today, and how are you addressing it?

At Marmon, our strength is our diversity, but it's also my biggest challenge. Balancing the unique security needs of 120+ companies with varying risk profiles requires a nuanced approach. I'm focused on building a collaborative framework that empowers each group while leveraging shared services and expertise to maximize our security posture and efficiency.

What is the key to success for someone just starting out as a CISO?

Listen much more than you speak. Especially in the first few months, focus on understanding the business, the culture, and the team you've inherited. Ask questions, be curious, and resist the urge to make sweeping changes immediately. Earning trust and building relationships are crucial before you can effectively lead.

How do you measure success as a leader?

Success is multi-faceted. It's about achieving business objectives, developing a high-performing team, fostering a positive culture, and continuously learning and adapting. It's a combination of tangible results and intangible qualities.
