Ritva Rantala

Ritva Rantala is currently the CISO at Transdev Sverige AB - part of Transdev group which is the biggest public transport company in the world. Ritva has worked within international organizations with high standards on quality and information security. The past roles have spanned from SW Engineer to various leadership roles within Telecom sector, and before joining Transdev, she held the role as the CISO at the Swedish Customs.
Fun fact about Ritva: I have a driving license for motorcycles, but I have never driven one, not even in the driving test. How is that possible? Ask me when we meet in one of our Evanta gatherings and I’ll tell you the details.

Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.
I have always been curious about connecting the details with the big picture, understanding the business, and keeping one foot firmly in tech and one in management. This combination, together with working within sectors where quality assurance and information security has been a natural part in all roles I have had, has led me to work as CISO.
What is one of your guiding leadership principles?
Listen, learn and act! Keep your ear to the ground, take every learning experience you can and act timely.
What is the greatest challenge CISOs face today, and how are you addressing it?
Efficient use of resources – human, financial, time. Not falling in the dark depth of the details but prioritizing initiatives and actions that will address the main objectives that we have set and that makes us more efficient. Balance between the operational everyday work and the long-term strategic improvements in the way of working.
What is the key to success for someone just starting out as a CISO?
Keep your eyes on the big picture and the challenges your business has. Keep in your mind that information security is a business enabler.
