With a career spanning from managerial roles in desktop and server architecture at Catholic Health Services of Long Island (CHSLI) to strategic leadership in information security at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Director of IS&T Security at Thomas Jefferson University – Jefferson Health, and Chief Information Security Officer at Montefiore Medicine, I have been dedicated to excelling in progressively significant roles. In my current position as the Chief Information Security Officer at Maimonides Health, I oversee security operations across the hospital system. Throughout this journey, I believe I have made significant contributions to each organization's strategic direction, demonstrating my capacity to lead and innovate in the dynamic field of information security.
What is one of your guiding leadership principles?
I consistently prioritize actively listening to the concerns and aspirations of team members, empathizing with their challenges, and working diligently to foster their personal and professional development.
With disruption being a key theme of the past few years, where do you see your role as a CISO going in the next 1-2 years?
The elevation of the CISO role, gaining increased visibility and influence in shaping the strategic direction of organizations, has commenced and I foresee it will become more widespread across all sectors within the next two years.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the role as a CISO?
Acquire a profound understanding of the organization's business model, goals, and objectives; this comprehension is vital for harmonizing your cybersecurity strategy with the overall business strategy. Identify and prioritize risks to the organization's information assets, formulating a risk management strategy aligned with business goals to ensure that security measures correlate with potential impacts effectively. Cultivate robust relationships with leaders, departments, and stakeholders, as collaboration is pivotal for fostering a security-aware culture and garnering support for cybersecurity initiatives. Articulate security matters clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Stay abreast of the latest threats, technologies, and compliance requirements, recognizing that continuous learning is paramount.
