From Blocking Attacks to Containing Damage — The CISO’s New Mandate in an Identity-First Threat Era

Gartner’s prediction that half of CISOs will rebrand as cyber resilience leaders by 2028 signals a shift in accountability: in an identity-first threat landscape, prevention alone no longer defines success. Today’s most damaging incidents begin with compromised human, machine, and service identities that rapidly expand blast radius, collapse operational boundaries, and turn security failures into business crises. This reality is forcing CISOs to break silos between security, identity, IT operations, and disaster recovery, and to redefine value in board terms: impact containment, identity-aware recovery, downtime avoided, revenue protected, and trust restored. This session examines how CISOs operationalize identity resilience today.
Discussion Questions:
- When an identity is compromised, what are the first three actions your teams take—and where does friction show up?
- How do you prioritize identities, systems, and data for fastest recovery under an assume-breach scenario?
- What handoffs break most often between identity, SecOps, and IT operations during a live incident?
- Which resilience metric (time-to-contain, time-to-recover, confidence to restore) do you actively track—and which one still isn’t operationalized?
