2021 CISO Leadership Perspectives

CISO Views on Priorities & Opportunities
March 2021

In 2020, security leaders had a full plate of challenges -- from securing a remote workforce and handling an increase in cyber threats to supporting ad hoc technology solutions and managing employee burnout.

One thing that didn’t change is the need for CISOs to manage the overall risks and threats to their organizations. This year, they anticipate managing hybrid workforces and a multitude of vendors, while they stay in front of rapidly changing environments and improve the maturity of their security programs.

CISOs from the world’s leading organizations shared their most important 2021 priorities across the business, as well as within their own functional areas.

Cloud security, strategy and architecture have been top priorities for CISOs in the two most recent Leadership Perspective Surveys (spring and fall of 2020). They also shared their specific goals and challenges around cloud initiatives.

The top priorities for CISOs -- cloud security and multi-factor authentication -- are reflected in how they plan to spend their resources this year.
