With his record-breaking year in space, U.S. astronaut Scott Kelly laid the foundation for the future of space exploration and exemplified the power and resilience of the human spirit. • The importance of embracing risk and testing your own limits to achieve your true potential
  • The challenges he faced and overcame on the road to becoming a true American hero

Becoming the New CIO for the Digital World

PR Krishnan headshot

PR Krishnan

EVP & Global Head, Enterprise Intelligent Automation and AI

Tata Consultancy Services

Technology is the ultimate multi-tool, capable of providing solutions to a wide range of challenges. With so many avenues of potential, it falls to the CIO to be a tech visionary, creating and communicating a vivid strategy for what is possible in a digital world.

In this session, you’ll explore:

  • How analytics and emerging technology can help the new CIO build smart strategies for the future of business
  • How CIOs can be agents of change – by visualizing how a “machine-first” approach can help business transform and grow
  • Effective ways of communicating a technology vision for each and every stakeholder in their own language

9:00am - 9:50am  Breakout Session

Interactive Workshop – Communicating and Measuring Value Creation with the Business

Jeff Lemmer headshot

Jeff Lemmer

VP and CIO

Ford Motor Company

The world of business technology has a way of commandeering language. Along with “transformation” and “digital,” you can soon add “value” to the list of your favorite buzzwords. Yet the concept of value is only empty when it lacks meaning – a meaning defined by the CIO. From here on out, CIOs will be translators of value, helping the business to define its terms, build a rational strategy for execution, and align its technology investments accordingly.

In this session, you and your peers will:

  • Gain insight into the nuts and bolts of value creation in a variety of organizations
  • Gather tools for not only articulating and communicating value, but also tracking and measuring the results of your efforts
  • Develop the “rules of engagement” for discussing value with disparate business partners

9:00am - 9:50am  Executive Boardroom

Prioritizing the Digital Agenda

Lara Caimi headshot

Lara Caimi

Chief Strategy Officer

ServiceNow

The need for digital modernization pervades every aspect of your business, but very few organizations can upgrade or overhaul every single capability at once. Under pressure to deliver rapid, scaleable transformation, CIOs must understand the levers that drive lasting digital impact, deliver unique value at all levels of the business, and create meaningful revenue growth. This session explores the way the pieces of the complex digital puzzle interact and how they can be assembled to revolutionize the enterprise.

You’ll gain insight into:

  • Real-world metrics that provide a meaningful digital “snapshot” of your entire organization – and pave a path to the future
  • Communication strategies for providing the right value message to the right stakeholder at the right time
  • Ways careful digital prioritization can enhance speed and agility while increasing the bottom line

First, GDPR reframed the conversation around privacy on an international scale. Now, privacy regulation in California (and the likely inter-state reciprocity of this regulation) brings that shift to the domestic sphere. These changes reverberate in all organizations who trade in data, intellectual property, and commerce across borders.

In this panel conversation, you’ll learn:

  • How privacy regulation continues to change our approaches to business, and the role of the CIO in this shift
  • The latest in regulation specifics: what have we learned about GDPR, and what does legislation mean for your compliance and legal accountability?
  • Tactical changes you and your partners can make to better prioritize privacy expectations

The CIO Mandate for Secure Cloud Transformation

Technology Risk Officer

Kimberly-Clark

The new way of work is remote, mobile-first, and cloud-based. Employees expect instant, secure access to applications, information, and resources. Meanwhile, threats proliferate, VPNs lag, hardware costs rise, and little is truly secure. Hub-and-spoke networks employing castle-and-moat security are no longer tenable, and CIOs who cling to legacy architectures put enterprises at risk. Kavitha Mariappan joins Corey Elinburg to present Secure Cloud Transformation, a practical cybersecurity approach that prioritizes security and user performance to align with today’s way of working.

In this session, Mariappan and Elinburg discuss how enterprise IT leaders can:

  • Improve customer digital experience while safeguarding sensitive information
  • Increase user performance while minimizing risk
  • Drive revenue and scalability while controlling costs

12:50pm - 2:00pm  Peer-to-Peer Meetings

For years, CIOs have struggled with the primacy of technology outpacing the availability and skill development of their talent. This interplay is complex, and is further complicated by the emergence of automation and artificial intelligence – tools that can augment top performers or replace them entirely, but ultimately sink or swim based on the overall technical competency of the organization. This session challenges you to answer the question: how are you balancing your people and your technology?

CIOs will share perspectives on:

  • Building the right strategy for equipping your organization with the people and tools for the future of your business
  • Enhancing the overall technical acumen of your organization and leading your people through the rapid pace of change
  • Evaluating the role of automation and artificial intelligence in supplementing and redefining your workforce

Leading into the Future at an Iconic Toy Company

Sven Gerjets headshot

Sven Gerjets

EVP & CTO

Mattel

If you are a tech organization that is not ahead of the business, then you are slowing the business down. If you are a 75-year-old toy company and your customers were born after the invention of the iPad, driving digital transformation in products and consumer experiences is imperative. All IT leaders must help the function – and the enterprise – move fast, take action, and be agile. Moving the boat, not just keeping it afloat, is critical. Learn about the strategy behind Mattel’s efforts to drive business value by leading digital innovation, including:

  • Implementing a fundamental level of hygiene – getting the basic blocking and tackling in order
  • Putting in place an operating model that is predictable and repeatable
  • Updating the security posture
  • Re-platforming the organization
  • Implementing new connected products and digital experiences

 This boardroom conversation tackles:

  • Strategies for embedding security into business processes across the organization
  • Measuring the overall cybersecurity health of your organization in meaningful, business-first terms
  • Defining the risk tolerance of your organization and driving accountability for risk into business units
